Poi Class schedule for August is as follows:

Tuesday the 5th, 6:00pm - 7:30pm, San Lorenzo park
Monday the 11th, 6:00pm - 7:30pm, Seabright Beach (by the cave on the north/west end)
Tuesday the 12th, 6:00pm - 7:30pm, San Lorenzo park
Monday the 18th, 6:00pm - 7:30pm, Seabright Beach
Tuesday the 19th, 6:00pm - 7:30pm, San Lorenzo park

The price per class will be $10 (requested donation). I am also willing to arrange trades.

Classes will be open to all levels (beginning through advanced, If are more advanced then me then you get to teach). There was some interest in separating levels into different classes but I haven't thought of an easy way to do that for this round. If any of you have suggestions on that I would appreciate it. Content will be determined by student interest and after each class I will write up a review and email it to anyone who wants it.

Extra sets of poi will be limited so please bring your own. I encourage you to make your own poi if you do not already have a pair.
My favorite way to make poi at this point is to take a water balloon, fill it with enough sand (or anything soft like rice or beans) so that it is a comfortable weight, and put it in some sort of long sock. The sock material should preferably be strong, soft, slightly stretchy, and have a little bit of friction. I also like them to be bright colors so that they are easy to see. The general rule for length is that while holding the handle, the poi should reach to either the top of your ankles or to your shoulder. That is the basic version.

There are some other options like attaching loop handles onto them (I like my handles to be big enough so that they fit over my wrist). Then it is good to put some sort of weight on the handle to make tosses and contact poi easier. Strings sometimes work for the middle cord section but they are often to narrow for my preference. Rope is nice if you can find some that fits the preferred conditions. Swivels of some kind also help with many tricks.

As usual some of the things we will focus on are:
- Foundational moves and their variations
- Mechanics and aesthetics of poi spinning
- Short choreographies where we will practice using transitions and combinations of moves
- Ways of traveling across a space with our poi in motion
- Incorporating poi skills with movement and dance

Please tell me any other requests and suggestions you have.

I will probably not be doing much flyering so please have anyone who is interested contact me or tell them to just show up at class.

If these class times to not work for you we can also arrange private and small group lessons.
