Any of you had any experience renting from UHaul or Budget here in town? It looks like Budget is going to be the cheaper option of the two. The one in Felton said they had no problem renting to burners. I just want to make sure no one has any horror stories from either of them. Willing to pay more if needed to not get hassled. Any input would be great! Thanks!!!

Re: Truck Rentals
Wed, August 6, 2008 - 3:34 PMi have rented from budget (in sand city) before and it was great
but i have found THE CHEAPEST option (although, you are REALLY tight on time!) is to do the cargo van - no mileage costs, and its only about 225$ a week plus your insurance is 30$ a day. plus you get better mileage, tons of space and its been a very successful option for us and a lot thriftier.
i have van rented from enterprise with full insurance and they have been fantastic. -

Re: Truck Rentals
Wed, August 6, 2008 - 3:48 PMSparkinzi, I and our crew rented from the SCruz Budget last year and it was PERFECT! No issues at all and the price was pretty good.
In our case and in last year's case, the cargo van wasn't nearly big enough -- we needed a big truck -- but I have in the past rented a cargo van and it was perfect for my needs. There's a place on Soquel here in SCruz, I believe it's called Auto Express, that rents them.
Good luck!

Re: Truck Rentals
Wed, August 6, 2008 - 5:53 PMThanks guys! I think we're going to go with Budget in Felton. The guy at the one on 17th specifically said NO BM! I don't like to lie either, although we return things in better shape than they leave. Unfortunately we do need a big one, we have scaffolding we have to take along with the cmp shower and a few couches. Also we have to tow up the solar generator so size is an issue. U-Haul seemed kinda shady, no gaurantee on if you'll get a vehicle the size you need on the day of. -

Thu, August 7, 2008 - 8:06 AMGlad we could help!
DO NOT RENT FROM UHAUL! I've heard all sorts of horror stories about them and their policies against BM (not sure what is true and what isn't).
There used to be a Budget on Ocean, that's where we rented ours, but it's not there any more -- not sure what happened to it. They were super cool but we didn't tell them that's what we were doing either. Didn't lie because they didn't ask!
Have a fantastic burn! Hope to meet you sometime. -

Re: Truck Rentals
Thu, August 7, 2008 - 5:40 PMuhaul is horrible. dont rent from them.
budget ROCKS, i have used them for truck use in the past and their per milage rate was great and they were very generous with rates and when i returned ours to sand city budget, i walked in and said "dont look at the truck yet, but i need to find a car wash!!"
he looked out the window, laughed and said "burning man, eh?" and i was all "uh....yeah."
totally gave me a discount, swapped stories and he washed it for me!
